SGP project has been served since 2008, funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. It provides services to new migrants to Australia. It helps with language and other difficulties while they are integrating themelves with the new community in the first 5 years.
The program aims to assist those people to become self reliant by providing information, counselling, referring and linking them to other services available. The program includes orientation to Australia, hosting information sessions, referral to appropriate agencies, individualised casework, development of life skills, introduction ad strengthening of links between the cleint and mainstream service providers and initiatives around sports and schools.
Specific activities CAV has assisted with under this program include: referrals and assistance to access Medicare, registering Tax File Number, seeking education provider, legal matters, Citizenship, extension passport, driving with VicRoads, Family Violence, Education and Training.
Every month, CAV has also hosted information sessions which are about the knowledge involving in the community, information about VicRoads, Medicare, registering Tax File Number, immigration, housing, employment and training.
Also, we refer them to other organizations by inviting speakers from Centrelink, Community Health Centre, lawyers firm, police (Federal and State), Women Crisis, and VicRoads to provide information.
